The Musicale Young Artists’ Chamber Orchestra is drawn from the most senior players in the Musicale Young Artists’ Symphony Orchestra. The players meet under the direction of Gonzalo Acosta, for one 3 hour rehearsal on the Tuesday evening of their summer course, and then ‘top and tail’ on the day of the lunchtime concert. Just what a professional orchestra does!
Gonzalo Acosta has been Co-Leader of the orchestra at English National Opera Since 1991, and in 2007 became Associate Leader.
Playing on a violin by Andrea Guarneri dated 1671, Gonzalo is a member of the Dussek Piano Trio which performs at Music Societies and Festivals around the country, as well as appearances at the Wigmore Hall, and the Purcell Room in London. Recordings include the Arensky Trios and a CD of William Hurlestone’s chamber music.
David Johnston is a Director of Harpenden Musicale, a community music leisure centre which offers music making opportunities for children and adults. He plays principal clarinet with the Haydn Chamber Orchestra.
